Program Description

This workshop offers participants the opportunity to learn about the adolescent brain, the impact of trauma on emotional functioning and interpersonal connections, and practical techniques to support treatment objectives. The course will focus on building the participant's knowledgebase in engaging, connecting with, and encouraging resilience in adolescent clients utilizing an honest, authentic, and genuine approach to also support bridging the gap in the therapeutic relationship and within the parent-adolescent dyad.

At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to: 

  1. Identify 2 potential consequences of trauma on adolescent brain development.
  2. List 2 therapy activities for adolescents to promote engagement.
  3. Identify 3 therapeutic strategies to build trust with adolescent clients and their primary caregiver(s).
  4. Explain the connection between the parent-adolescent dyad and resiliency.

About Aniesha S. Kleinhammer

Aniesha S. Kleinhammer, LMFT, is a licensed marriage and family therapist and the Program Supervisor of Counseling and Advocacy for Fleet and Family Support Center at Naval Air Station Lemoore. She has over four years of experience teaching master’s level MFT students. She is a doctoral student at Loma Linda University in the DMFT Program and is a past President of the Central Valley Chapter of the California Association for Play Therapy. Aniesha specializes in the treatment of children, adolescents and young adults who have experienced complex trauma.
